“Happy to have scored, disappointed with the result.” Martin Payero was interviewed by Udinese’s in-house TV channel and shared his opinions on a variety of subjects:

“I think that the team are in good shape but we need to be more focused in various game situations.

“The new coach has given us belief. He’s spoken to all of us and said that he sees quality in the team. We need to believe in what we can do and that we can stay up.

“I don’t think that we’re afraid, just lacking in confidence in certain situations. The change of coach could help us find solutions.

“I think that I’ve improved a lot since I joined the club. I was young when I came from Boca Juniors and it was a huge change for me. I feel more mature now.

Roberto Pereyra is a friend and our leader. I love playing with him – he’s had a great career. He shows his personality both on and off the pitch.

“We need to play as we know we can and focus more. It’s in our hands. I believe we can do it and so do my team-mates. It’s all about positivity.

Fabio Cannavaro is asking us to be more aggressive when out of possession, and when we’ve got the ball he wants us to break forward quickly. He’s a footballing legend who’s won a Ballon d’Or. I’ve seen footage of him from his playing days – what a player he was.

“I love Udine as a city. It’s small – you can see it in a week. I feel the love from our fans. I want to give my all for my team-mates and the club. I want to repay the affection the fans have shown me.”
